The Western Flyer, author John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts chartered this boat to explore the Gulf of California (Sea of Cortez) in 1940 resulting in the book: The Log of the Sea of Cortez. The boat sank recently and has been hauled out at the Port of Port Townsend, Puget Sound, Washington State.
